Who could forget Ben Affleck’s memorable appearance in J.Lo’s 2002 Jenny From the Block music video? This was peak ‘Bennifer’, a name coined when the two started dating that same year. Despite getting engaged in November 2002, the duo called it quits in early 2004 (Affleck reportedly spent $2.5 million on the engagement ring).
And that was the end of Bennifer, or so we thought. Affleck went on to have three children with actress Jennifer Garner whom he married in 2005, while J.Lo married Latino crooner Marc Anthony in 2004 with whom she had twins. However, after their respective marriages ended in divorce, Affleck went on to romance Ana De Armas, while J.Lo’s subsequent engagement to Alex Rodriguez eventually fizzled – and in a move no one saw coming, Bennifer rekindled their relationship in mid-2021. By April 2022, the two stars were engaged – again – 20 years later!
“Did you ever imagine your biggest dream could come true?” J.Lo wrote in her newsletter On The J.Lo. “Saturday night while at my favourite place on earth (in the bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed. I was taken totally off guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again, I was quite literally speechless and he said, ‘is that a yes?’ I said YES of course that’s a YES.”
In July 2022 they married in Vegas in a low-key chapel ceremony, followed by a second ceremony at Affleck’s Georgia estate in August, with guests including Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso, director Kevin Smith and actor Jason Mewes.
