A well-known example of Monroe's allyship was her instrumental role in advancing the career of jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald. 



In the 1950s, Fitzgerald faced barriers in performing at prominent venues due to racial discrimination. 


Monroe personally intervened by calling the owner of Mocambo, a famous nightclub in Hollywood, and insisted Fitzgerald be booked. 

Monroe promised to sit in the front row every night to draw media attention, leveraging her star power to dismantle a discriminatory practice. Fitzgerald later credited Monroe for transforming her career and called her "ahead of her time"​
