This Is How Dramatic The Last 24 Hours Of The Queen Really Were

Viewership of Netflix's drama about the British royal family, The Crown, has skyrocketed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

AsiaOne reported today that the series is currently reigning in the seventh spot with 17.6 million hours viewed.

The show's viewership in the UK has increased more than 800 per cent and quadrupled in the United States.

The Crown chronicles the life of Elizabeth, who died on Sept 8, over several decades, beginning in the late 1940s before her father King George VI died and she ascended to the throne. The fourth and latest season focused on the marriage of King Charles III and the late Princess Diana.

Claire Foy portrayed a young Elizabeth in the first two seasons, earning her Best Actress In A Drama Series at the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards as well as an Emmy for Best Guest Actress In A Drama Series last year.

Olivia Colman portrayed Elizabeth in Seasons 3 and 4 and won the Emmy in 2021 for Best Actress In A Drama Series.

Season 5 is set to premiere in November and features a new cast.

Imelda Staunton will portray Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce will portray the late Prince Philip, Dominic West plays Charles and Elizabeth Debicki plays Diana.

Olivia Williams has been cast as Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles and Jonny Lee Miller as the then British Prime Minister John Major.

The sixth and final season of The Crown has paused production in light of Elizabeth's death.
