A teenager from Leicester, England, has been charged with attempting to hack into the computers of high-ranking US government officials, including the then-director of the CIA, John Brennan.
The teenager, whose name has not been released due to his age, is accused of targeting the computers in 2015 and 2016. Prosecutors allege he was part of a hacking group called "Crackas With Attitude." Reports at the time suggested the group may have infiltrated Brennan's personal email account, although the extent of the breach was never confirmed.
The charges against the teen include eight counts of "securing unauthorized access" to computer systems and two counts of unauthorized modification of computer data. This case highlights the growing concern about cyber threats and the international reach of cybercrime.
While the details of the hacks remain unclear, it serves as a reminder of the importance of cybersecurity for government officials and individuals alike.
