The Vietnam War was a war fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. This war lasted for two decades, namely from 1955 to 1975. At that time, Vietnam was divided into two countries.
The cause of the Vietnam War was the ideological differences between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Since the mid-19th century, Vietnam has been a French colony. In 1941, Ho Chi Minh, who was a Vietnamese statesman and revolutionary figure inspired by the spirit of communism in China and the Soviet Union, formed the Viet Minh.
The Viet Minh was a league consisting of nationalists and communist groups who supported Vietnamese independence. Viet Min resistance succeeded in expelling the French in August 1945. The power vacuum was immediately exploited by Ho Chi Minh, who declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (RDV), on September 2 1945. Ho Chi Minh then served as the first president of the RDV. However, because France returned to Vietnam, the First Indochina War or French-Vietnamese War broke out on December 19, 1946.
