Dakota Johnson says she had initial worries about new superhero movie Madame Web

Dakota Johnson, best known for her role in the "Fifty Shades" trilogy, is taking on a new challenge: playing the titular character in Sony's upcoming superhero film, "Madame Web." However, the transition from steamy romance to web-slinging wasn't entirely smooth for Johnson. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed some initial anxieties she had about the project.

Stepping Out of Her Comfort Zone

Johnson admitted that she wasn't initially sold on the idea of playing a superhero. "I got sent this script, and I was like, 'I don't know about me being a superhero,'" she confessed. The actress, who typically gravitates towards grounded, character-driven roles, was hesitant to embrace the fantastical world of comic books.

The Allure of Cassandra Webb

Despite her initial reservations about her, Johnson was eventually drawn to the character of Cassandra Webb, a blind mutant with precognitive abilities. "I was sort of mystified by her powers," she explained. "I felt like, 'Oh, I really would love to see that superhero. I would love to see a young woman whose superpower is her mind di lei.'"

Conquering the Blue Screen

One of Johnson's biggest concerns was the film's heavy reliance on special effects. "I've never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there's fake explosions going off, and someone's going, 'Explosion!'" she said. "And you act like there's an explosion. That to me was absolutely psychotic. I was like, 'I don't know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an okay job!'"

Finding Her Footing

Despite her initial nerves, Johnson ultimately embraced the challenge and found her footing her in the world of "Madame Web." She credits director S.J. Clarkson with helping her navigate the unfamiliar territory. "S.J. was just so incredible," Johnson said. "She was so patient with me, and she really helped me understand the character and the world."

A Leap of Faith

"Madame Web" marks a significant departure for Johnson, both in terms of genre and the scale of the production. However, her willingness to step outside her comfort zone and embrace a new challenge is a testament to her versatility as an actress. Whether her initial anxieties were justified or not, one thing is certain: Dakota Johnson is ready to swing into action and show the world what she can do as the enigmatic Madame Web.

The film is set to be released in theaters on July 7, 2023, so audiences can soon judge for themselves whether Johnson's leap of faith paid off.
