Cillian Murphy's dad brings him crashing back down to earth following Oscar nomination

Cillian Murphy's father has brought his Oscar-nominated son right back down to earth following his first Academy Award nod with one of the most Irish interviews ever done.

On Tuesday, the Cork native bagged a nomination in the Best Actor category for his role as the titular character in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, going up against Bradley Cooper, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Giamatti and Colman Domingo.

Cillian's reaction to his Oscar nomination on Tuesday had social media alight with many joking the Peaky Blinder star had one of the most Irish responses ever, revealing he was enjoying a cup of tea with his parents.

Now Cillian's father Brendan Murphy (Breandán Ó Murchú as Gaeilge) has outdone his son, giving the most Irish reaction possible to his massive Academy Award nomination. Speaking on An Saol Ó Dheas on Thursday afternoon, Brendan told presenter Helen Ní Shé that they don't like to make a fuss about him and that he has a job just like other people's sons and daughters.

The proud father continued to say how the only difference between their Oscar-nominated son and other people's children is that he gets a great deal of publicity but that they were so happy and pleased for him.

"We don't like to make too much fuss about him," the Corkman explained in Irish during the interview.

"He's got a job like the sons and daughters of other people, and the difference, he gets a lot of publicity. All the same, we're so happy for him and pleased.”
